One World Trade Center

I had never been to the actual New York City proper. I once back in 1999 I believe had gone over to the Statue of Liberty from New Jersey and I look back on a photograph of my sister and I with the two Trade Centers standing prominently in lower Manhattan. They had dominated the skyline then and now the One World Trade Center towers above right where they once stood. It is the tallest building in the United States and one of the tallest in the world. It looks amazing against the sky especially a deep blue when the weather is great. I was standing on one of the edges of the pools that are part of the 9/11 Memorial when I looked up and took this picture.

Early at Times Square

I was traveling with my sister for my first time to the Big Apple, New York City. I was  only going to one night as I was taking a late night bus Saturday morning and heading back Sunday night to not miss any work. The bus was ok but really cheap compared to others means of travel. We had arrived in the city before the stated time; 5:30am. We were able to walk over to Times Square that early on Saturday and it seemed like everyone was sleeping in. We had it all to ourselves and the overcast skies kept the sunlight out and the bright LCD/LED screens bright against the buildings and slightly damp sidewalk.

Petersburg Photowalk

Walking with my photography group we headed to Petersburg which is just south of Richmond VA down I-95. The idea since it has a lot of old structures that we would do black and white. I shot with my X-Pro1 on a Rokinon 12mm f/2 and Fuji 35 f/1.4 lenses.

The Love sign is a Virginia thing, since Virginia is for Lovers!

The 12mm lens with the f/2 is great, fully manual but fun to use an can not wait to use it for landscape photography in the future.

I have to get back to Petersburg again, there was a lot to see.

buildings older then any you would see in Richmond…

Nice ol’ VW Van parked in the snow.

The 12mm really  gets a lot and I know there is a 10-24mm f/4 from Fuji but significantly more.

Lots of shadows and there was still snow on the ground from our storm that came through.

Expired Velvia at Peaks of Otter

Peaks of Otter is a little destination in the mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. There is a lodge and a camping ground surrounded by 3 mountains. In the image below the lodge is on the lake and Sharp top is standing tall behind it. It is a nice place and depending when you go might be very busy. When you get the opportunity also drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is very beautiful in every part.

Walk to the Beach

I kind of already miss warmer weather (although it has reached 70 degrees in December already).  I am ready to get out on some more water, the river, lake, pond, ocean what ever I can. I enjoyed getting to the beach when I could this past year but it was mostly a quick stop as I was out that way for work. This was the beach access at 89th street at Virginia Beach. It was the last street and access before the base.
